Automatic pressure controllers for calibrating pneumatic devices to pressures up to 3000 psi have been available at various performance levels and prices for over 25 years. Until recently, the options have been limited with regards to automating pressure test and calibration at pressures greater than 3000 psi where, for safety reasons, a hydraulic fluid is typically used as the pressure medium.
Until recently, one of the few options for automating high pressure calibrations
was fully automatic piston (deadweight) gauges which have a price point above $100,000 - outside the budget of most applications. Further, due to the mass handling involved, the time required to change from one pressure to another can take longer than desired, especially in production environments.
Ruska developed the Model 7615 High Speed High Pressure
Controller to address the need for an economical solution to
automate high pressure calibrations. The high speed pressure control
system reduces the time required to perform tests and
calibrations.
Utilizing the Paroscientific quartz sensor, the Model 7615 provides a precision of 0.01% of range for pressure ranges to 20,000 psi and 0.02% of range for 30,000 and 40,000 psi ranges. Ruska further enhances performance by offering a Triple Scale option which can provide up to 6 ranges in one instrument. This rangeability provides a high level of precision across a wide operating pressure range and can be supplied with a NVLAP accredited calibration certificate.
To provide high speed pressure control in the Model 7615, Ruska developed a unique pneumatic to hydraulic control system which incorporates pulse width modulation control valve technology developed by Ruska and Druck over the last 10 years. This combination of technologies provides the Model 7615 with the ability to control in 10% increments in 5 seconds or less. For example, a Model 7615 with a full scale of 40,000 psi can control in 4000 psi increments to within 0.25% of set-point in 5 seconds into a 50 cc load volume. Within 25 seconds, the 7615 will maintain the set-point to within 0.01% FS until the next pressure is commanded.
The Model 7615 also provides a great deal of flexibility in terms of the pressure medium. Virtually any non-corrosive fluid can be specified as the operating medium so that the fluid in the 7615 is the same fluid used by the device under test, eliminating time consuming cleaning procedures after testing is completed.
The Model 7615 provides an economical approach to automatic high pressure fatigue testing, life cycle testing and general pressure calibration with a high level of precision required by today's high performance devices.
